Tayca has developed and marketed sulfonated film and sheet materials designed mainly for use as separators in nickel-hydrogen secondary batteries. Our original sulfonation technology using sulfuric anhydride gas helps improve hydrophilicity in nonwoven fabrics and films used as separators.

Secondary batteries employing these separators are used in personal computers and mobile phones. Tayca products have also helped support the commercialization of batteries for hybrid and electric vehicles, and we expect demand for our separators to continue to grow.

Our functional sulfonated films and sheets are now meeting applications in areas beyond separators, and we expect to see their use in antistatic films and proton exchange films for fuel cells.
